Music at Thamesmead School
Our Curriculum Leader for Performing Arts is Mrs Becky Holmes. Mr Moses and Mrs Rosethorne are our music teachers. We also have many visiting instrumental teachers.
We offer an outstanding music provision at Thamesmead and are keen to enable all students to enjoy music and fulfill their potential.
In addition to class music lessons there are a variety of extra-curricular music activities. Details of clubs are displayed in student notices during tutor time, in the Thamesmead 10 newsletter, on this website in the Thamesmead After School Clubs sheet (TASC) and on the notice board in the music department foyer. We look forward to seeing as many students as possible at these music clubs.
There has been a huge amount of research into the benefits of music on our well-being and academic success and it has been proven that playing a musical instrument can enhance a child’s development. We would highly recommend any child to have instrumental lessons.
We currently have provision for drum kit, piano, guitar, bass guitar, woodwind, violin, and singing lessons – and we are always trying to expand the instruments we cater for. Lessons take place at various times during or after school in the music department and last for 30 minutes at a charge of £20.00 per lesson, and there are also subsidies on offer. If you would like to enquire or have any questions about your child starting instrumental lessons at Thamesmead School, please email t.moses@thamesmead.surrey.sch.uk with some information about which instrument they would like to learn.
If your child would like to start learning an instrument that is not yet catered for, please still enquire and we can see what provision can be made for your child.
