Development of Library

Thamesmead Library Refurbishment 2026

At Thamesmead, our vision is to enhance, develop and manage school resources to support high-quality, inclusive education for every student. We are committed to creating modern, safe, and sustainable spaces that inspire learning, meet current needs, and prepare for future demands.

You will have seen building improvements taking place each year across the school. These improvements have had a very positive impact on staff, students and parents, and the difference is clear to see when visiting the school.

This year, our primary Development Fund focus is the refurbishment and remodelling of the school library.

The refurbishment will transform our outdated library into a modern, multifunctional learning hub. The new space will feature upgraded technology, flexible areas for collaborative and independent learning, improved accessibility, enhanced security, and an eco-friendly design. It will promote a strong reading culture, support community engagement, and remain adaptable to future educational needs.  More than just a library, it will become a central space that nurtures curiosity, creativity and academic excellence.

You can see a virtual walkthrough of the new design here. Work will start in the Summer Term for completion by September 2026

Key Features include:

  • Book shelves at shoulder height.
  • Separated classroom feel should anyone walk through the library during a lesson
  • Teaching wall and storage solutions to make full use of the wall space
  • Space for 32 PCs – full class capacity
  • Graphic on the rear wall prevents it from feeling “closed in”
  • Computer desk design which helps supervising staff to see all screens
  • Acoustics: Leaf and Ivy overhead acoustic rafts.
  • Ceiling: Light, brighter, welcoming and modern space
  • Biophilia: classrooms that utilise biophilic design enhance student creativity and support overall healthier development due to our biologically encoded connection to nature.

The project is funded from the school revenue reserves (£100K), our School Development Fund (£30K) and by the Friends of Thamesmead (£10K).  We still need the support of Thamesmead parents to help reach our target.

Visit our School Development Fund page to find out how you can support us reach these targets. Supporting FoT events/iniatives will also help reach this target.
