Sporting News – February 2016

It has been a great week for our sports students. Last Friday 15 students watched the England rugby team train at Twickenham. It was a fantastic experience to be part of a 20,000 crowd, watching elite rugby players train.

Our Year 9 boys football team beat Matthew Arnold 2-0 in the district cup semi-final. The game was played in difficult conditions and we played the better football for most of the game. Charlie and Milo were the scorers and James H was Man of the Match. They now play either Bishop Wand or Sunbury Manor in the final.

The Year 7 boys won the Spelthorne district Basketball tournament on Tuesday beating Bishop Wand 3-2 in the final. Billy scoring a free throw in extra time to seal the victory.

Not to be outdone the Year 8 girls basketball team put in an amazing performance yesterday to win the district competition. They beat Thomas Knyvett 34-4 and lost to Magna Carta 14-4 in the group stage. They then beat Matthew Arnold 8-6 in the semi-final and put in a remarkable performance to beat Magna 4-2 in the final. The girls were an absolute credit to themselves and the school and were delighted with their win. The team was: Olivia, Amy, Elise, Amelia and Hannah.

And finally, the magnificent Year 7 girls and boys came 11th and 7th respectively in the Sportshall Surrey County finals – a great result for county standard.
