Thamesmead Remembers
Thamesmead School is among many organisations who were disappointed not to be able to gather with the local community this year at the War Memorial in Shepperton to lay their wreath. Instead, on 11th November Year 11 House Captains performed their own ceremony at school. Josh and Callum laid a wreath, readings of the Exhortation and Kohima Epitaph were made by Tate and Millie and the Last Post was played by Matt. A recording of the ceremony can be found here
The whole school had a virtual assembly on the subject of Service and Sacrifice, giving students the chance to explore the idea of past and present service and sacrifices including the World Wars and that given currently by NHS staff. A 2-minute silence was observed. The wreath was later moved to the War memorial at the end of the High Street. The student’s ceremony was photographed and reported on by two students, Olivia and Jacob, who are part of a new Thamesmead newspaper committee. This is a new online venture in school working through Microsoft Teams to encourage students to write and share their ideas and thoughts on topical subjects.
